This last weekend we hosted the winning
team from SA Teen Entrepreneur at
a workshop. During this time we ran through some of the basic attributes
required to become a successful entrepreneur.
Once again the age old enemy of self-doubt
and lack of confidence was named as the number one enemy of a successful future.
So many times we have seen businesses and
ideas come to a grinding halt because the brain behind the idea froze in fear
when asked to present to the world.
So what can be done to overcome the fear of
failure? Malcolm Gladwell in his book Outliers
highlights two things that make a successful person: Timing and Practice. Some
people are just born at the right time or arrive at a place at the right time
to seize an opportunity. Then there is the small investment of the critical 10 000
hours of practice before becoming an overnight success. The more you put in the
more you will get out. Simple as that, I do not care if you are a singer, sport
player, lawyer or business owner; the same rules apply, practice practice
practice and when you have finished, practice some more.
What you read and do now will determine who
you are in 5 years from now, so plan today, now to begin to practice for your
future and be the person you deserve to be.
