The whole of Cape Town took to the streets
on Sunday to witness the 30 seconds of destruction of the cooling towers in
Athlone. Watching something destructive like this has the same attraction as medieval
executions, a real crowd drawer. They estimated that more people watched the
towers than the World Cup Final. Funny how people are?
It did remind me that we all have a set of
towers in our own lives that we have built and treasured for years but offer no
value to either ourselves or others. Is it not time that we took 30 seconds to step
away from pride and tradition to remove these from our lives. Step back from
your business and life for a moment and identify what procedure, practice you do
that offers absolutely no value to your business. It could be the way you
signup new clients with old forms, the long contracts you make them read, the
lengthy forms you fill out? What about the way you monitor staff and stock?
Identify your business towers and take time today to press the big red button
to demolish them, making room for new, improved processes that will take you
and your business into the future.
