This time of year many creatives are tired, worn out and often suffering from just stuckness. It has been a long year to ride, often with little or no break and we long for the leave that we know we will not take but desperately need. We expect of ourselves to just push through and make that difference and get that last deal or finish that project that has been outstanding. But we have that lethargic ‘slug in treacle’ feel to our day.

Apart from the good old vitamin B complex shot in the butt, what else could we do differently to break this stuckness? Do something different; be otherwise in your day and you will begin to see the world in a different way resulting in new ideas, new opportunities and a renewed sense of purpose. We are not talking about any major change like move house, marriage or joining a gym, just try some or all of these and see what effect it has on your day;

  •  Sleep the other way on your bed (may lose your pillow)
  • Sleep naked, or wear PJ’s if you already do
  • Sit on the toilet backwards and look out the window (love this one)
  • Drive to work using a completely new route (got lost twice)
  • Listen to a different radio station that you did not know existed
  • Read a novel that you would not normally read (M&B here I come)
  • Buy and cook a meal you have not eaten before (Sushi is great)
  • Eat out at a restaurant you have not yet tried
  • Wear your underwear on backwards for a day (Ouch, but fun)
  • Have a beer for breakfast (only on Saturday)
  • Take the train or bus (do this just for fun, great way to meet new people)
  • Visit a museum that you have not been to (learn new things about history)
  • Finger pain on your company flip chart (add kids for extra fun)
  • Have a bowl of cereal for supper (snap, crackle and pop into bed)
  • Get up early to watch the sunrise (love doing this)
  • Enjoy a hot milky drink at lunch time (Milo for lunch, screws with the brain)

I am sure your mind is now buzzing with possibilities and new exciting stuff. Try new stuff in your life and the old thoughts will soon be replaced with fun new thoughts that could just lead to new ideas and that breakthrough you have been waiting for. Ok, need to go put some clothes on now.
