One of our EI members, Marius Boaden, runs a
Non-Profit organization Prison
Broadcast Network, has been short listed for an international award for
some of his work. PBN works with offenders in Pollsmoor offering hands-on video
production, editing and associated skills. Marius has had over 11 years of
success within the correctional centre and plans to expand to include offerings
such as a full TV station and the development of an outside production company using
staff made up of released offenders who went through the programme whilst in
prison. Here is an extract from his email.
“A TV documentary entitled “Pollsmoor’s Got Talent”
produced by SABC’s “Special Assignment” in collaboration with Prison
Broadcasting Network (PBN), has been short-listed in the 2010
ASSOCIATION OF INTERNATIONAL BROADCASTERS AWARDS!
The documentary focused on the rehabilitative work
done by PBN for offenders, particularly in the area of creative TV programmes
such as “Jail Star!” Some of the footage used was also filmed by
offenders trained by Prison Broadcasting Network.
The entry made it through to the shortlist in the TV
Creative Feature Category and the winner will be announced in November in
London.
Although this does not guarantee a win, it does mean
that the work done by Prison Broadcasting Network has gained some INTERNATIONAL
exposure and we are grateful to the producer of Special Assignment for making
this submission.”
Congratulations to Marius and the whole team, a huge
feather in your cap.
