At first this may seem a weird topic for a
Monday morning but actually are three critical activities that every business
owner and entrepreneur needs to take into account each week.
Working ON your business requires working
on the strategy, developing new markets, more products, brand footprint,
reputation management, building expansion and foundation networks. Each of
these tasks are critical and should be scheduled into every weekly programme.
Working IN your business is what the
technical business owner loves to do. This is the roll-up-your-sleeves work and
get-dirty activity. The technical business owner normally comes from this field
or experience and can do all the jobs within their business and chooses to stay
there. For the Manager business owner it is not that easy, you need to get out
of your office and walk the floor, chat to staff, put on your overalls and get
into the work force. This is where you will see improvements or required
alterations for the workflow and productivity. These cannot be read from a
spreadsheet or seen on a CCTV monitor.
Working OUT of your business is the hardest
one for most business owners. This is the required time out, away from work
with family and friends. Taking non-guilt time away from work is one of the
best activities that you can do. Take your Spouse out for a mid week breakfast
date, go to the movies. Spend time with the family on weekends and public
holidays. It is important to be there with your family and not let the time go
by and then wish you had been there for the soccer game or school play when you
chose to finish a report at work.
Three simple things, On, In and Out.
Schedule them and then get to it.
