Last night I attended the Heavy Chef Session and got to listen to Seth Rotherham and Rich Mulholland. The place was packed to capacity and then some more. We got to hear how Blogging was far from dead and still had a huge role to play in the future of social media and small business marketing. Yipeee, I can keep my day job.

The one factor that stood out for me was that here were two so called successful people who had made some serious money and were respected by the community as bloggers of note but where were their values. Seth (not even his real name) has built his fortune on pictures of girls kissing and then leveraging his sponsors to give him money and stuff through lies and manipulation, all to the applause of the people in the room. Actually I felt ill. The world at large will always make huge money off booze, drugs, sex and war and writing crap on their blogs about it. But to stand up and admit this and get people to follow you in droves is not what I expected from the evening, now Seth has his own blog radio station.

With Cokes Vitamin Water, Cell C and Woolies new look ‘sex’ adverts and some of the ‘best’ blogs on the market now wonder the online and marketing world is falling into the garbage. What we need now is a super hero to come clean and lead the way back into the morally correct manner of doing business. Will good morals make ever make money in the  market place? Let’s hope so.
