We have recently build up a relationship with Von Seidels, intellectual property attorneys. We were invited to their offices in Century City last week for coffee and a chat and found them to be very different to some other law firms we have been to. Chatting to Lisa, their Marketing Coordinator, we found that they too a very entrepreneurial and innovative in their approach to building their business. We have already referred one of our clients to them for advice on securing her IP in her business before she goes to market.
When dealing with any new business idea it is always good to stop and think about IP before you speak to people and launch any form of advertising idea to the open market. Once you have shared your idea it may become difficult or impossible to register any type of patient or protection over the concept.

Here are some points about Trade Marks from Von Siedels brochure
 Registering your trade mark gives you the exclusive right to use this mark in relation to specific goods and services.
 A registered trade mark is an absolute defence against infringement claims and enables you to prevent others from adopting similar marks in relation to similar goods or service.
 In cases where a registered trade mark is also considered to be well-known, it may even prevent others from adopting similar marks in relation to unrelated goods and services that may dilute the distinctiveness of the mark.
 Recording your mark on the Trade Marks Register often deters others from adopting a similar mark as it will now appear on registrability searches conducted by third parties prior to filing and be cited by the Trade Marks Office against subsequent applications for similar marks.
 Your trade mark registration may be useful in securing registration in other countries.

We look forward to a long and  business building relationship with Von Seidels. You can get more info on them at www.vonseidels.com
