What do we need to realize the potential of
entrepreneurship in South Africa? Well the easy answer is more entrepreneurs.
But the right answer would to create more channels that assist people to
identify their potential and then incubate them from where they are at to a place
of sustainability. What we need is more Incubators that assist people in
developing businesses.
So what is an incubator? It is easier to
answer, what an incubator is not: it is not a place where free grants and help
is handed out at some info kiosk. It is not a place where others will do your
business plan for you and then expect you to succeed. It is not a place where office
accommodation and second hand equipment is provided for free. It should not be
an institution that breeds entitlement.
Entrepreneur Incubators need to seek out
talent and breed greatness through action and accountability whilst bridging
the identified gaps with education and mentorship. We can only grow
entrepreneurship through entrepreneurship, not through handouts and
entitlement.
This week we got to appoint our first three
associate coaches
into the EI structure. Each coach has been trained up and equipped to train,
mentor and coach business owners and entrepreneurs within their desired niche
or sector.
We are very proud to announce that
Carrie-Anne, Mike and Ntuthu are now ready to take on clients and begin to have
a positive influence on the entrepreneurial market in Cape Town. We still have a
few others on our list in Cape Town and hope to begin to expand our coaching
association to Johannesburg in the new year. For more details on our
association and our coaches click here.
