Cape Town Entrepreneur Week got going today
with the first of a number of satellite events, this one in Gugulethu at the
Sports Complex hall. A handful of enthusiastic entrepreneurs from the local
community arrived looking for assistance and guidance in taking their
businesses to the next level.
Caro Vicci from the City opened the day
with a welcome speech and then handed over to Bruce Wade from the Entrepreneur
Incubator. Bruce shared the six big issues that hinder business growth and then
concluded his short talk with the 5 C’s of Entrepreneurship; Convenience, Convergence,
Collaboration, Cooperation and Courage. A short discussion time was then held
allowing participants to ask questions.
Vuyisa Qabaka from the South African Black
Entrepreneurs Forum took the podium and shared 5 key points in expanding a
business as well as an update on what SABEF is doing to assist entrepreneurs to
raise capital for their businesses.
Lesley Africa gave us some insight into how
to sustain your business followed by Sathiselan Moodley who touched on the
social entrepreneurship aspect of a business as well as addressing some
specific issues from the audience.
The afternoon was dedicated to playing the
BEST game with the participants giving them some more take home lessons to
apply in their business.
In reflection, not the biggest crowd for
this sort of event but a start to the main expo and conference in November. The
next satellite event is planned for Wednesday 26th October at the
Muizenberg civic hall.
