We complete this short series as we look at the preferred quadrant of Conscious Competence. I know what I do well and I will keep doing it as much as possible. Wouldn’t it be great to hear this from your service providers each day as they arrive on time with the correct order and the correct quoted price? To deal with someone at the top of their game is a pleasure that is as rare as fresh vegetables at Shoprite.

John Maxwell says to ‘do what we do well and do nothing else’. Outsource everything but genius. Build a team around you that are all competent and conscious of their skills, then put them to work in a well rehearsed process of customer service. Do this and the world will queue up to give you money. How we enjoy a great sporting team that peak at the right time in the season or a team of dancers who get the River dance sequence just right. It makes your heart tingle with excitement. Why can’t we do this in business? What prevents us from being consciously competent and doing the right things right all the time? I believe it is possible, it just takes a bit of effort. Effort that unfortunately most of us are just too damn lazy to unearth and employ.
