Marketing is not all about flyers, tag
lines, copy and pictures. Marketing is all about building profitable
relationships with key people. This involves getting out of the office and
talking to people, meeting new people and building relationships.
You need to have a strategic plan to
identify and meet Brand Champions for your business. Brand Champions are people
who know the people that you want to do business with. Let me give an example.
A Client of ours does Breast Feeding Consultation. ...

In the world of small business, the word “try’
and ‘hope’ should not be part of your daily vocab. We are not called to try and
make it work, or to hope the results are positive. We cannot run our business
on luck.
We need to be prepared for the future, no
matter how unknown it may seem.
Never plan a marketing campaign and then
hope someone will call, plan in order to ensure someone calls. Get your details
correct, plan the execution to the finest details and then sit back with
antic...

Service providers in the industry go
through a certain routines with customers each day. It becomes second nature
and they become proficient in the task, then it begins to slip. We begin to
rely on muscle memory and begin to operate in the Unconscious Competence
quadrant. Some examples of this I have experienced are:
My doctor doing the post opp exam on my
shoulder
The booking agent at a hotel or rental car
The check out person at a supermarket
And my pet hate the waiter singers at the
local S...

Last night I attended the Heavy Chef Session and got to listen to Seth Rotherham and Rich Mulholland. The
place was packed to capacity and then some more. We got to hear how Blogging
was far from dead and still had a huge role to play in the future of social
media and small business marketing. Yipeee, I can keep my day job.
The one factor that stood out for me was
that here were two so called successful people who had made some serious money
and were respected by the community as bloggers of...

There is a huge increase in the requirement
for small business owners to get online using video and podcasts. We have been
playing in this arena for some time now and finding out the tools and
techniques required for this. We have also had many enquiries about how to do
this, so in response we have put together a workshop/discussion group for this
Saturday 21st Aug.
We have invited some experts in video,
voice and Camera work to chat to us, but it is designed as a share and learn
session. If...

The new trend for blogs and business
websites is to make a short video, upload it to Youtube and play it on your
site or blog. This has been encouraged by Google for better SEO and it helps
build relationships with people who get to see you in action before they get to
buy from you.
In theory this is a brilliant idea and easy
to do. Or is it?
If you have a Mac and plenty of high tech
equipment, a degree in sound engineering and video editing then it is fun and
easy. If on the other hand you...

I was walking through Greenmarket Square in Cape Town this week and got
to witness the local craft market selling tactics first hand. Each time I
slowed to look at an item I was accosted by the store holder with a well thought
out selling speech and deal makers. At first this was fun and I got to interact
with the seller about their work and what they did, where they came from and
their business. But then it was the same with all the engagements, selling
turns to desperation and the negotiati...

Just the thought for most of kissing your sister is enough
to bring those scrunched up face looks of disapproval. Very similar looks and
emotions come to business owners when we chat about marketing and having to
write copy for the latest campaign.
The secret is, that just like kissing your sister, once you
get into it and overcome the initial emotion of inertia, it becomes fun and
interactive. The process needs to be set up with clear guidelines and defined
outcomes. Build in some measurabl...
