PRESS RELEASE
Spring Academy for teen entrepreneurs
SA Teen Entrepreneur Foundation, an
NGO which creates a platform for
teenagers to turn entrepreneurial ideas into real-life businesses, will open
their Spring Academy doors to teens this October. The five-day workshop, which will
run from 3 to 7 October, at the Belmont Conference Centre in Rondebosch, will equip youth with the business skills to
make running their own business a reality.
Teens will explore concepts of innovation, business
idea generation, team work building, business planning, marketing flow and
branding. The workshop’s aim is to improve entrepreneurial success amongst
teens and in the long run to catalyse job creation and youth employment
opportunities – an imperative in an economy where over 50% of youth are
unemployed.
“There is an abnormally high unemployment rate
amongst young people in South Africa, entrepreneurship offers a solution to
this problem,” says Founder and Director of SA Teen Entrepreneur Foundation, Lydia
Zingoni. “Young people need to be equipped with the skills to empower
themselves, we need to move away from a cap in hand, sense of entitlement
mentality.”
The workshop will include mentoring by entrepreneur, author and songwriter
Peter Greenwall, marketing expert, entertainer and top magician Marcel Oudejans
and entrepreneurial business coach Bruce Wade.
In true entrepreneurial spirit, participants will
compete to win R5 000 for the best business plan pitch, this will be presented to
a panel of industry professionals at the end of the course.
