One of our EI members Steve Horwood from 7 Sea Geosciences has been hard at work doing what others thought was impossible and just not feasible. This is just the thing we love about Steve, normal is just not acceptable to him or his way of doing business. We first wrote about this project here in Jan when they were still in construction. This month they launched and tested their new jack-up-barge, a platform contraption that puts a new swing on all things geoscientific. Here is an extract from their press release:
7 Seas embarked on an ambitious project in December 2010 to produce a custom designed and built self-elevating barge for a contract offshore Namibia. The barge is 11m x 9m with a current capability to operate in water depths up to 22m. The platform is primarily designed to undertake in situ geotechnical testing of founding conditions for subsea structures and for development in ports and harbours. The entire barge is modular and it is intended that the barge be shipped in 3 x 6m containers.

This is just the beginning for Steve and his team, they plan to take this concept to inland lakes and rivers later this year. Thinking out of the box and going where others dare to dream is what sets true entrepreneurs apart from the ones who just exist. Well done Steve and the team, we look forward to your next innovative invention.
